You deserve support. I'm here to help.
Do your or your child’s emotions sometimes just feel like too much to hold on your own? Are you struggling to set boundaries with your friends, family, or your kids? If you or your child have experienced a stressful life event, or you are looking for a place to process day-to-day struggles, you deserve support in this process. Therapy should be a place to explore and grow, and I am honored to hold space for this journey of healing. You are the expert of your own life and experiences, and I will partner with you to formulate a plan of support that feels right for you and your family.
I'm trained in several evidence-based interventions, meaning that research has shown them to be helpful. My counseling style is trauma-responsive, flexible, and personalized. I work with children, adolescents, & adults who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, attachment disruptions, and parents whose children are having challenging behaviors.

About Kristin
I have over 10 years of experience working with children & families in research and clinical settings, and currently work full-time as a therapist and supervisor at a local agency that supports children and families who are experiencing trauma. I also provide training, supervision, and consultation to local agencies and organizations. I have also taught many Master's and Doctoral level classes to counselors- and psychologists-in-training at the University of Rochester.
In addition to my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, my doctoral degree in Counseling and Counselor Education provided training in advanced counseling theory and practice, group therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and counselor supervision.
In my private practice, I enjoy supporting clients with a variety of needs, but I specialize in treating trauma, depression, and anxiety, as well as attachment disruptions, behavioral challenges, and relationship challenges. I work with children, teens, adults, and families.
If you're a therapist yourself, I am more than happy to chat about how I could be a support to you through providing reflective and/or constructivist clinical supervision.
What Therapy Will Be Like
How often we meet is up to you, but most clients see the most benefit from weekly or biweekly appointments. I would be happy to meet in person or via telehealth, depending on your preference. We will work collaboratively in our first few sessions to assess your and/or your child's experiences and history, identify areas for growth, and together develop a plan to help you and/or your child work toward change. Throughout the course of our treatment, we'll be checking in on your progress to make sure you still feel like you're reaching the goals you set, and adjust those goals as necessary.
My personal approach to counseling emphasizes the way that your past impacts your thoughts and feelings today. Oftentimes, experiences as a child make us less conscious of, and less likely to express, our true feelings, which can impact our functioning. Your childhood and your attachment relationships also shape how you relate to other people, whether it be partners, family members, or your children. By unpacking your past, we can work together to create healthier relationships, boundaries, communication strategies, and emotional well-being.
I also offer parent coaching for parents or caregivers in need of support to understand your child's behavior, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and increase your sense of effectiveness in navigating your child's challenging behaviors. This approach is time-limited and assessment driven, with help every step of the way to help you feel more connected to and successful with your children.
I strongly believe that therapeutic techniques should be grounded in research evidence, but I also know that we can't replicate real life in a research lab. The techniques and interventions I use have been shown to be effective in research trials, but I implement them flexibly to meet your or your child's unique needs.
I'm extensively trained in Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and MATCH-ADTC, a modular CBT approach for kids that treats anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral challenges. I also have training in emotion-focused therapies such as AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) and incorporate components of these approaches into my work.
